Rare Albumen Print on Carte-de-Visite of Francis Power Cobbe c.1870s
An albumen print of the great Victorian feminist and anti-vivisectionist Francis Power Cobbe (1822-1904) mounted on a carte-de-visite, the reverse displaying the imprimatur of the semi-professional photographer Philip Crellin Jr (1823-1912) who, from 1864, specialised in family portraits from his studios in Regent Street. He also photographed professors of London University, including Huxley, Priestley and Lubbock, and wrote articles in art and science journals about photography. This print cannot be found in any museum collection or other online archive.
